this is why i love thrift stores...

yesterday i hit one of my favorite thrifts, and discovered that they added a new little section, devoted to crafts.
i used to get very excited by button jars, and would savor diving into them when i got them home to see what treasure was hidden in the middle. but then the thrifts started charging $10 for button jars ! so i don't do that anymore...
but yesterday, there on the shelf was this little jar, filled with small glass beads.
what they are are parts of mercury glass beaded garlands, and tiny feather tree ornaments, complete with tiny hangers.
but what i love best about this find is that they were all kept in a vintage borden's mayo jar, complete with a picture of the borden contented cow.
what was her name?
was it elsie?

then i found two bags of ribbons...this also is like a treasure chest to me. i peeked at what i could see from the sides of the bags, and decided to take them both. they were $3 a bag.

inside the first bag there is gorgeous satins, and a luscious embossed ivory ribbon, which i am pretty sure is silk.

there is also plenty of polka dot ribbon in black and white, which we LOVE finding!

we will save that for special gifts or projects for our shop.

the second bag was also stuffed with wonderful ribbon...again, lots of satins, and a few velvets in silk.

there is nothing like silk velvet.

i love the tag on this ribbon more than the ribbon itself, and like to imagine the person picking it out at their local department store.

i remember when the bullock's in my home town had a notions department, as well as an elevator that announced the next floor's departments..."third floor...notions, ladies fashions, foundations..." (for those of you too young to remember, that is what under garments were called!)

i am thrilled with what i found.

my daughter loves vintage trims and ribbons so i will pull several out of this stash to put in her christmas stocking.

when you do a lot of your shopping in thrifts for vintage treasure, its never too soon to start.

i have a special place in my room where i tuck things all year long.

i'll bet you do that, too!

busy = fun

kristi and i had an extremely busy weekend.
we worked a full day in the antique shop on saturday and were slammed.
there was a constant flow of people all day long and sales were brisk.
our kind of day!

once the shop closed, we stayed and worked another full day completely tearing apart and re-doing our space.
we finished after midnight, and then got up at 6 to hit a market on sunday.

we have been finding great stuff in our shopping the past two weeks, from a lot of different places.
we are also finally getting to some things we have been holding back; this is a peek at four little things we love that will be added to our online shop this week.

my sister and i love being busy, and when we are working with our vintage things, we couldn't be happier!

lazy bones

your dog does this, right? all dogs do, don't they?

this is my pooch and best pal, buster. i sneaked up on him to get this...he was really konked out. usually if he sees or even senses a camera, he sits up and looks at me, reproachfully.
please forgive the unmade bed. he decided to sleep in this morning, and i couldn't get him to move.
love the tongue sticking out...doesn't it get dried out?
he looks pretty funny from this angle, all pink and spotted.
he's actually really cute when he's right side up.
oh! he has stirred.
got to go make the bed while i can.

vintage china plates

kristi went yard sale-ing for a bit today, while i was laid up with a bad back (which almost never happens to me.)
she found a vintage drop leaf table in a great small size that will be wonderful when painted. she also found the plates above; they are all very different and interesting. some are antique, the others vintage. some are english, and two are french.

we are excited because we have several shopping trips planned for this week and are gearing up for autumn.
neither one of us much care for the month of august with its unrelenting heat and dryness (we very rarely get summer rain here in california) so we pass the time by looking forward to fall and the renewed energy that the cooler weather will bring.
meanwhile, we keep busy hunting for fresh vintage finds to stock our shop for the busy autumn shopping season.
hope your saturday was fun and that you have a wonderful start to your week tomorrow.
we will report in throughout the week!
